Greetings

Director of Korean Bioinformation Center Sanghyuk Lee, Ph.D.¡°KOBIC will lead the 21st Century into the Era of Biotechnology! Futurologists and OECD experts all predict the 21st Century to be the era of biotechnology. Triggering the start of this new era, the completion of the human genome map and the development of omics technology emphasize the importance of bioinformation.

When the era of personal genome arrives, which is expected in the next 5 years given recent advances in Next Generation Sequencing technology, advances in the bioinformatics field will be the foundation for genomics-based medical advances, by utilizing technologies from diverse industries such as health, medicine, environment, pharmaceutics, etc.

Another facet of the biotechnology era is the securing and effective utilization of bioresource, providing the information needed for research and development. Taking this into account, the Korean government has enacted the ¡°Legislature for the Collection, Management and Utilization of Biological Research Resources¡±, and as a follow-up, has designated us as the Korean Bioinformation Center (KOBIC), to control Korea¡¯s bioresource information.

As we embark on a new journey as the government organization specializing in bioinformation, we pledge to devote ourselves to our role as the hub for Korea¡¯s bioinformation research, bioresource and diversity information. Thank you for your support.
